Clients
The Mill
May 2006 – June 2007
I built a system called FSInfo, which collates large volumes of data from various online and offline storage media used throughout the company. It then provides an interface to search and create reports on the usage patterns, as well as providing integration with the Veritas archive software. Written in Python and Ruby on Rails, it is in currently operation across The Mill’s offices in London and Los Angeles.
Created from scratch, the RADB (Reusable Asset DataBase) is a generic Media Asset Management system, written in Ruby on Rails. It supports storage of both still images and movie clips, along with free-text searching, categorisation, tagging, user ratings, and tight integration with third party applications such as Autodesk’s IFFFS systems.
I built the EDL Uploader system to a tight deadline, in order to allow external clients of The Mill to upload EDL files remotely. Written in Ruby on Rails, it offers automatic versioning and notification of the uploaded files. The system also features integration with the internal client management software in use at The Mill.
Midnight Transfer
Feburary 2007
This project required a quick turnaround. Midnight Transfer needed a system to generate professional PDF reports for their Broadcast Quality Control service. It was implemented in Ruby on Rails and featured advanced features such as predictive input based upon past and regular usage patterns.
Moo Print
July 2006 – Febuary 2007
Called in initially to help with code deployment onto the production web servers, I then extended my involvement to the systems and network architecture of Moo Print. This included PHP and shell scripting, network cabling and implementing a number of backup systems, in addition to providing Mac OS X and FreeBSD systems administration.
Spring Digital
August 2007 – Present
I am involved with Spring’s digital strategy at a consultancy level. I provide analysis and advice on internal workflow, tools, development team and systems infrastructure.
Smoke and Mirrors
September 2007 – Present
I am involved with improving the unix infrastructure, including version control systems, NIS integration, distributed software deployment, and diskless booting and installation with Kickstart. I am also developing a custom tapeless/digital workflow system.
