Portfolio
I have 12 years experience in Web Development and New Media, and 4 years experience in Post Production. Since leaving my role as Head of Systems Development at Framestore CFC in 2006, I have been engaged in a number of freelance projects.
The Mill
I built a web-based system which collates large volumes of data from various online and offline storage media used throughout the company. It then provides an interface to search and create reports on the usage patterns, as well as providing integration with the Veritas archive software. Written in Python and Ruby on Rails, it is in currently operation across The Mill’s offices in London and Los Angeles.
The second project was a large scale, tightly integrated Media Asset Management system, written in Ruby on Rails. It supports storage of both still images and movie clips, along with free-text searching, categorisation, tagging, user ratings, and direct delivery to third party applications such as Autodesk’s IFFFS systems.
Midnight Transfer
Midnight Transfer needed a system to generate professional PDF reports for their Broadcast Quality Control service. It was implemented in Ruby on Rails and featured advanced features such as predictive input based upon past and regular usage patterns, and a completely bespoke PDF layout.
Moo Print
Called in initially to help with code deployment onto the production web servers, I then extended my involvement to the systems and network architecture of Moo Print. This included PHP and shell scripting, network cabling and implementing a number of backup systems, in addition to providing Mac OS X and FreeBSD systems administration.
Spring Digital
I was involved with Spring’s digital strategy at a consultancy level. I provide analysis and advice on internal workflow, tools, development team and systems infrastructure.
Smoke and Mirrors
I was involved with improving the unix infrastructure, including version control systems, NIS integration, distributed software deployment, and diskless booting and installation with Kickstart. The role also covered evaluation and prototyping of a custom tapeless/digital workflow system.
